Byron O’Neal
I got my first camera at a really young age before a family trip out west. It was a magical experience and as my interest grew I must have driven my parents crazy always begging for more Polaroid flash bars. Those things were awesome. As the continuum has progressed, I’m currently using a full frame Canon with goals of transitioning to medium format soon.
Both of my parents were career public school educators so I can’t help but think that teaching is in my blood. I really enjoy the opportunity to work with people who are passionate about their photography and helping them to unearth and develop their personal artistic style.
I share the whirlwind of this life with my lovely wife, the human tornado that is our son, and a happy old soul of constant shedding that has chosen to put up with us named Keoki.

Nick Chill
Originally from Pennsylvania, I moved to San Diego while serving 5 years in the U.S. Navy. It was a trip to the Grand Canyon that sparked what would be a career in photography. Upon seeing the magnificent view I thought to myself “I want to share this scene with everyone that can’t be here themselves.” A couple of weeks later I bought my first dSLR camera, and my journey in photography began.
Photography has been a powerful tool in helping me see life for its beauty. I see our workshops as a chance to help others see the beauty in life and share it with the world. It is a thrill for me to see the excitement in someone’s face when they’ve captured a stunning image. Everyone should get a chance to see life this way, and what better way to spread the joy than through photography?

O’Neal Photographic Workshops
with Byron O’Neal and Nick Chill
The mission of O’Neal Photographic Workshops is to provide a friendly, fun atmosphere for learning and creativity. During our destination photography workshops we put down our gear to help lift you up. Whatever your skill level, we focus first on developing an understanding of your gear and best field practices which allows you to move beyond the tech side of photography and begin to develop your personal style. We will encourage you to take your camera off of Program Mode but won’t leave you hanging when you do.
During our workshops we are at your disposal. When we’re not actively instructing or helping with setup, we are on hand for any questions or concerns you may have. This is your time.
